Calais: The Last Border

Calais: The Last Border Calais: The Last Border

A haunting film which adopts an intimate approach towards refugees struggling to improve their lot in life just across the English Channel.

The port of Calais in Northern France isn't blessed with good fortune. The French are embarrassed by it's tastelessness and the English simply dismiss it as a place to buy cheap booze whilst passing through. Now refugees and migrants from all over the world are discovering life in the town. Hundreds of them are stuck there, side by side with English shoppers, at the last border before England desperate to reach the other side. At first glance, this film is a portrait of a transient town woven from character driven stories each reflecting on life in England. But it soon becomes a moving tale of loneliness, love and the search for something better.
